Promoting Inclusion and Participation

Written by NHS Education for ScotlandDate 20 Apr 2015

This resource is a learning resource for health, education, social work and voluntary sector staff who want to know and understand how to improve their own communication and make their service more accessible for people with communication support needs. Included are a collection of film clips that depict three different environments in which young people use Alternative Augmentative Communication (AAC): a mainstream primary school, a mainstream high school and a specialist school.

This workbook shows how learners can use the film clips to improve the way they promote inclusion and participation for young people. It can be used by professionals involved in the education, health or social care of children and young people. It is also worth noting that the learning approach adopted uses reflection and discussion and is ideally suited to a group setting.
