Description of service on offer:

IASS are statutory services, with a duty to provide information, advice and support to disabled children and young people, and those with SEN, and their parents. The service has moved towards delivering SEND advice related to the law around education, health and social care. The obligations and expectations of an IAS Service are set out in the Code of Practice, 2014.

IASS provide accurate, unbiased information based on existing SEND legislation and guidance and the full range of options available to parents/carers children and young people with SEND at all stages of school life, from pre-school through to school-leaving at 16 & 19 and to the age of 25.

Calls to the service are varied and range from concerns about the level of progress and/or the allocations of provision in educational settings to more complex enquires about assessments and rights to appeal against decisions.

Parents and young people can self refer to the service. The service provides a confidential telephone service and a private and confidential service email address. Practitioners working with families can make referrals but only with the permission from the parent/carer and young person they are supporting.
