The IASS Network/IPSEA legal training is training in SEND law for Information, Advice and Support (IAS) Services, funded by the Department for Education (DfE).

There is an expectation from the DfE that that each IAS Service has at least one person who has fully completed Level 1 - Level 3 (modules and face to face) of the SEND legal training.

For info - usual access to our training is as follows: 

IAS Service staff
  • Online Modules:  FREE
  • Face-to-Face Training:  FREE
IAS Service Volunteers 
  • Online Modules:  FREE
  • Face-to-Face Training:  FREE - but only if additional places are available
Other (local authority, voluntary sector etc)

Please note - any non-IAS Service staff/volunteer who registers and undertakes the online modules without receiving prior consent from the IASS Network will be charged. 

There are three levels of the SEN Legal Training covering:

  • Level 1 - The SEND legal framework, EHC Plans (assessments, developing, writing and appealing the plan), the Equality Act, the Education Act and Exclusions.
  • Level 2 - Transition, Transport, Annual Reviews, Mental Capacity, Health Care, Social Care, Personal budgets/Direct Payments (Education, health and social care), Mediation and the duty to specify
  • Level 3 - The SEND Tribunal, Refusal to carry out an EHC needs assessment, Refusal to issue an EHC plan, Tribunal Appeals, Disability Discrimination, Challenging Decisions - Judicial Review & legal aid, The Early Years framework/Rights to information and Elective Home Education/Education otherwise than in a school or FE college

This course has been accredited by the Bar Standards Board for 30 hours of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) points.
